The trichrome staining is a method for staining cells and tissues with three dyes (chromophores).

principle

The name trichrome is derived from the use of three dyes, for example the MSB trichrome stain ( Ponceau 6R together with Martinsgelb and water blue ). The specimens to be stained are fixed before histological staining , which stabilizes the structure of the cells and prevents autolysis . Various fixatives are used for this. B. a ten percent neutral buffered formaldehyde solution or the Bouin solution . Excess fixing agents are then washed out with a buffer if the staining requires this pretreatment.

variants

The variants of the trichrome staining are sorted chronologically.
