Chrystian Piotr Aigner

Chrystian Piotr Aigner (* 1756 in Pulawy , Poland ; † 9. February 1841 in Florence , Italy ) was a Polish architect of Classicism and architectural theorist.

biography

He studied architecture in Italy and was a member of the Accademia di San Luca in Rome . He returned to Poland around 1780 and worked mainly in Warsaw (until 1825) and Krakow (until 1827). Not far from Warsaw, he realized staffage buildings in the Puławy park complex according to the wishes of the Czartoryskis. Then he moved back to Italy. He created numerous buildings in the classical style in Warsaw. From 1817 he was professor of architecture at the University of Warsaw . His building activity is mainly characterized by the mature Italian and empirical classicism , later he also created in romantic classicism, which had its roots in Polish architectural history, as well as in neo-Gothic . His most famous theoretical work is the "Treatise on Ancient and Slavic Temples".
