Chuck Fairbanks

Charles Leo "Chuck" Fairbanks (* 10. June 1933 in Detroit , Michigan ; † 2. April 2013 in Scottsdale , Arizona ) was an American American football - coach with the New England Patriots in the National Football League and in two Colleges .

Career

Fairbanks attended Michigan State University . After graduating, he trained at a high school in Michigan for three years . From 1958 to 1966 he was assistant trainer at various colleges and universities.

Due to the sudden death of the head coach at the University of Oklahoma , Fairbanks took this job for the next seven years. He won the league final three times with the team. In 1973 he became the head coach of the New England Patriots. His first step was the draften of John Hannah , Sam Cunningham , Ray Hamilton and Darryl Stingley . However, he could not train the Patriots well enough until 1979 and was sacked by the then owner during the season as he was again negotiating with the University of Oklahoma to become head coach. He moved there, but lost 26 of 33 games and was hired by the New Jersey Generals in the United States Football League , but he was released in 1983.

Fairbanks died of a brain tumor on April 2, 2013.
