Cihan Özkara (born July 14, 1991 in Hamm ) is a German - Turkish - Azerbaijani football player . He has been under contract with SC Verl since 2017 .

Career

In the club

As a five-year-old Özkara joined Rot Weiss Ahlen (at that time still LR Ahlen ) and went through the youth departments there. In his B-youth year 2007/08, he moved to his Westphalian neighbor Arminia Bielefeld for a year , but immediately returned to Ahlen. There he developed into a key player in the U-19s.

On September 22, 2009, after a coach dismissal in the first team, the interim coach Andreas Zimmermann brought him to the professional team along with three other youth players and changed him for the first time in the DFB Cup match against SpVgg Greuther Fürth . On the following second division match day, he also completed his first league game as a professional. Shortly afterwards, he and two other young players received a professional contract until 2012. Since then, Özkara has played a few times in the second division team, but in 2010 he was relegated to the third division with the club.

In July 2011 he moved to the Turkish first division club Sivasspor . For the 2012/13 season he was loaned to the second division Kayseri Erciyesspor . Already at the winter break of the same season he returned to Sivasspor early. In February 2015 he left Sivasspor for good.

In spring 2015 he went to the Azerbaijani club PFK Simurq Zaqatala . He left this at the end of the season and signed a two-year contract with the German third division club SC Preußen Münster . During the 2017/18 summer break, Özkara joined SC Verl in the Regionalliga West. A year later he moved to league rivals Rot-Weiß Oberhausen .

National team

Ever since Berti Vogts started working as the Azerbaijani national coach, the Azerbaijani Football Association has pursued the strategy of nominating German-Turkish footballers for their national teams. Özkara won the Azerbaijani U-21 in 2011 and then in 2012 for the Azerbaijani national team.
