Cinema Bizarre was a strong appearance in the Japanese Visual Kei exploratory five-member German glam - pop - / rock band . Their sound is a mixture of guitar rock and electro sounds reminiscent of New Wave .
history
Acquainted with one another over the Internet, Yu and Strify met Kiro on a date at AnimagiC 2005. The three hit it off right away and decided to start a band. They met the other two members Shin and Luminor through the Internet. When they moved to Berlin, the first three lived together in a shared apartment, Luminor lived alone and Shin lived with his parents. Yu also met the future keyboardist Romeo at the AnimagiCs 2005; he rehearsed with the band from the start.
The group was signed to Universal . Their managers were Tilo Wolff and Eric Burton . The illustrator Fahr Sindram implemented the band as manga characters and created some merchandise items.
Even before the first single was released, they became known through MySpace and other Internet portals. On September 14, 2007, Lovesongs (They Kill Me) was the first single, which reached ninth place in the German single charts and was in the top 50 for six weeks. The album Final Attraction was released on October 12, 2007 and also reached ninth place in the German charts. The song The Way We Are on this album contains a sample of Camouflage's The Great Commandment , the title Dysfunctional Family in turn contains a sample of the Depeche Mode song Personal Jesus . On December 7, 2007, Cinema Bizarre's second single, Escape to the Stars, was released . This song also contains a sample from Depeche Mode, this time from the song Everything Counts .
On March 6, 2008 they competed with the song Forever or Never at the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 , but could not prevail against the No Angels and Carolin Fortenbacher .
After the first concerts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the Cinema Bizarre European tour started on March 28, 2008 and ended with a performance in Amsterdam on April 25. During this tour, Romeo often stood in for Luminor.
In November 2008 Luminor finally left the band for health reasons. Romeo took over his part on the keyboards but decided against singing, as the Luminor had done. In March 2009, Cinema Bizarre were the opening act for Lady Gaga and also played concerts in America. Through this tour they met Lady Gaga's DJ Space Cowboy and in the hotel room the Song I Came 2 Party was created as a collaboration .
In August 2009, the new line-up released the second album ToyZ , although the release was planned for March. The release date of the single My Obsession was also postponed, as both parts of the album and the single itself had already landed on the Internet. The band therefore decided to release the single I Came 2 Party, recorded together with Space Cowboy , as the first release and My Obsession as the second release on September 25, 2009. The song Hypnotized by Jane , which also appeared on this album, was written by Placebo singer Brian Molko . Cinema Bizarre shortly afterwards announced the We're All ToyZ Tour 2009 , which took the band through German-speaking countries, France, Holland, Italy, Spain, Luxembourg and Russia. The final concert took place in Warsaw.
In 2009 they were awarded the European Border Breakers Award (EBBA).
On January 21, 2010 the musicians announced on their Myspace band page that they would take a break as a band and devote themselves to their own projects. Shortly afterwards Romeo and Yu announced that they would work as singer and guitarist for the American band Rouge Morgue , but this band broke up a little later. Strify, Kiro and Shin currently work as a DJ.
Strify released a new version of the song Blasphemy under the name Jack Strify in collaboration with the French DJ Junior Caldera , but initially only in France. After an EP release in 2013, he continued to work on a solo album, which was initially crowdfunded. The publication preceded the release of a double single.
Guitarist Yu Phönix (real name: Hannes de Buhr ), who is Annika de Buhr's brother , released his first single Moonflower on November 11, 2011 , where he worked with J'Lostein and Tadahisa Yoshida .
