AnimagiC
The Animagic ( own spelling AnimagiC ) is a German-language anime convention that has been taking place since 1999 . It is held annually in summer and has been taking place in Mannheim since 2017. AnimagiC is organized by the publisher of the specialist magazine AnimaniA .
history
The event took place for the first time in summer 1999 in the Rhein-Mosel-Halle in Koblenz , where it was held annually until 2005. It is therefore the oldest German manga and anime convention. Due to the increasing number of visitors, the event area has been expanded over the years to include the Koblenz Castle , two cinemas and the “Circus Maximus”, a Koblenz discotheque.
Between 2006 and 2016 the AnimagiC took place in the Beethoven Hall in Bonn due to the elimination of the electoral palace in Koblenz due to a change of ownership . Due to the closure of the Beethoven Hall due to ongoing renovation work, the 2016 Convention took place there for the last time.
Since 2017, the event has been held annually at the beginning of August in the Rosengarten in Mannheim .
AnimagiC 2020 has been canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic .
program
In addition to Japanese popular culture ( J-Rock , Visual Kei , Cosplay ), the program also offers several video rooms with a cinema program, a dealer room, bring & buy stands (flea market), show acts, Japanese guests, role-playing games , drawing courses, concerts, question-and-answer over three days. Answer podiums with guests of honor, synchro-workshops, a games room, video game competitions and much more.
Well-known people (draftsmen, directors, etc.) from various anime studios or mangaka , voice actors , singers and music bands are welcomed as guests of honor every year . One of the most famous guests was Tadashi Ozawa (freelance animator for Nausicaä from the Valley of the Winds , The Castle in Heaven , Akira and Record of Lodoss War ), who held a drawing workshop with selected visitors from 2000 to 2006.
Game manufacturers such as Nintendo , Square Enix , Namco Bandai and Capcom will present the latest video games at AnimagiC , including Resident Evil 6 as a German premiere in 2012 .
On the main stage, among other things, an AnimagiC cosplay competition takes place, in which, in addition to the implementation of the costume, the embodiment of the character shown is in the foreground. In addition, show groups show elaborate pieces related to anime / manga in the style of theater and musical performances.
German and Japanese artists and show groups such as Taiko drummers appear on another stage .

Magnitude
Summed up over the 3 days taking place, the current number of visitors is given as approx. 15,000. Contrary to popular claims, the AnimagiC is not the largest anime convention in Europe, because the Japan Expo in Paris ( France ) , which takes place every year in early July, can boast this record with over 247,000 visitors. The next largest European event is the Salón del Manga de Barcelona in Barcelona ( Spain ), which takes place annually at the end of October or beginning of November and can book over 130,000 visitors. The Manga Comic Convention in Leipzig is currently the largest manga fair in Germany . Another hall was introduced during the Leipzig Book Fair, which only deals with manga and comics. This hall visited the book fair in March 2015 with over 93,000 visitors. However, since this is only part of the book fair and not a separate event, the DoKomi in Düsseldorf is currently probably the largest manga and anime convention in Germany, closely followed by the Connichi in Kassel. The effects of the Animagic's move to Mannheim remain to be seen.
