The Cineplexx Blue Devils are an Austrian American football team from Hohenems , Vorarlberg .

Club history

The Blue Devils have seen a steep rise since their formation in 1998. The Austrian championship title of Division I took place as early as 2000 .

The first major international success came in 2007 with reaching the EFAF Cup final. There the Blue Devils were defeated by the Turek Graz Giants in a purely Austrian final with 28:26.

Since the promotion to the top Austrian league, the Blue Devils have been dueling with the Carinthian Black Lions for fifth and sixth place in the table. With the 2009 season there was a change in the game mode, which mainly affects the Blue Devils and the Black Lions, as they are now in a newly created interdivision against the four seeded clubs of the AFL , as well as against the clubs of the Division I championship games take place, whereby there could never be a duel between the Black Lions and the Blue Devils.

After this season there were big changes for the club, as it moved to the First Swiss League (NLA) due to various disagreements with the AFBÖ . In addition, the club plays in the Austrian Division I with another team. This could hardly keep up there because the club had to compete in Austria with a different squad than in Switzerland. The small squad for the Austrian league led to a game being canceled because the game against the CNC Gladiators did not have the minimum number of players required for a match.

In addition, the club played from the 2009 to 2016 season with interruptions in the Central European Football League (CEFL). Here you got out for the 2017 season and the league expansion by adding some teams from the IFAF Champions League.

Teams

The unique geographical location of the Blue Devils in relation to the Austrian football sport is reflected in the fact that on the one hand they are the only team in Vorarlberg and on the other hand they maintain close contacts there due to their proximity to Switzerland , which can also be seen in the squad.

In addition to the successful combat team, the Blue Devils' junior departments are particularly worth mentioning, which has been a constant in Austrian 9-man youth football in recent years and holds the title of the reigning U17 9-man champion.
