The American Football Association Austria (AFBÖ) is the umbrella organization for American football , cheerleading and flag football in Austria . AFBÖ is a member of the Austrian Federal Sports Organization (BSO), the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), the European American Football Association (IFAF Europe) and the World Association (IFAF).

The association, which was founded in 1982, had seventy associations with 8,350 members in 2018. The AFBÖ is based in Vienna. The AFBÖ also organizes the Austrian national American football team .

Events

Tackle football

The AFBÖ is currently organizing four leagues for the men. The highest league is the Austrian Football League (AFL), including the Austrian Football Division One , Austrian Football Division Two and Austrian Football Division Three . The Austrian champion is determined annually in the Austrian Bowl .

Furthermore, the association organizes a youth game, divided into minis (U13), schoolchildren (U15), youth (U17) and juniors (U19), as well as a women's league, the Austrian Football Division Ladies .

Flag football

The flag football game, which is also organized by the association, is divided into the Flag Liga Austria, the Flag Liga 2, the Flag Regionals, the Flag Liga Juniors and the Flag Liga Halle, which takes place in winter.

Cheerleading

Since 1994 the AFBÖ has also organized the cheerleading championship (ÖCM).

National teams

In addition to the regular championship operations, the AFBÖ also hosted the C and B European American football championships in Wolfsberg , each of which was won by the Austrian national team. The association also organized the fourth American Football World Cup in 2011 , which was won by the USA . In 2011 Austria was able to achieve 7th place.

The board consists of five members, the president and four vice-presidents, who are elected for a term of office of three years.
