Bob Lockwood

Bob Lockwood (born May 12, 1953 in New York , † June 16, 1989 in La Manga del Mar Menor ) was an American entertainer and impersonator .

Life

Lockwood first worked in America as a make-up artist . In 1973 he came to Germany and started working as a woman impersonator in Berlin bars and for the well-known travesty group Chez Nous . In 1976, Wim Thoelke invited him to appear with his Marilyn Monroe imitation on the television program Der Großes Preis .

Lockwood moved his residence to Munich. As an imitator of female film and show stars such as Liza Minnelli , Judy Garland , Marilyn Monroe , Josephine Baker , Shirley Bassey and Tina Turner , he had great success, especially in Germany, but also internationally. He appeared on German television in entertainment programs, as well as in television series and movies. Sammy Davis Jr. invited him to appear on his show in the US as Liza Minnelli.

He appeared as Tina Turner in the ARD New Year's Eve gala hosted by Max Schautzer and Dagmar Berghoff . The audience was initially not informed that it was not the original Tina Turner. The audience did not notice and was only informed afterwards. In this program he appeared in other masks, for example as Hildegard Knef .

He was also seen as Marilyn Monroe in the quiz show All or Nothing , which Marilyn Monroe had on this episode.

Some time later he presented a duet between the late Judy Garland and her daughter Liza Minnelli, a compilation, in the "The incredible Show" broadcast on ARD . . He also resurrected Marilyn Monroe and Josephine Baker here in a deceptively similar manner.

Bob Lockwood was killed in a car accident in Spain in 1989 at the age of 36. The burial took place in the New South Cemetery in Munich . The singer Jennifer Rush dedicated the album Wings of Desire to him in the same year .
