history

founding

AFC ASKÖ Rangers was founded in 1984 when a Waldviertel Football Cup was held between the Vienna Spiders and the Black Dogs. At the end of 1986, the merger of the two teams in Maissau and the influence of Thomas Aichmayr, the founder of the first Austrian American football club Vienna Ramblocks , created the American football club Blue Rangers Schwarzenau.

Previous years

As early as 1987, the Rangers managed to move up from the Aufbauliga to the 2nd Bundesliga by reaching second place behind the Klosterneuburg Merceneries .

Austrian Football League (1989-1992)

In 1989 the promotion to the top division could be fixed, where only three years later in 1992 the entry into the Austrian Bowl was achieved. There they were defeated by the favored Graz Giants with 28:13, but were able to achieve the greatest success in the club's history by winning the runner-up title.

Austrian Football League (1993-2003)

The team was able to reach the AFL play-offs several times during this time. It also managed to advance in international competitions such as the European Football League in 1996 . Unfortunately, the beginning of 2000 financial problems and the departure of many players to the newly founded Vienna Knights forced the club to relegate to the second highest division in 2004.

Lower Austria Titans

In the summer of 2006, with the merger between the Südstadt Rangers and the Baden Bruins, the Lower Austria Titans game community was brought into being, with which all aspects and delegations of American football should be represented in the southern Vienna area.

Division Two (2008 and 2009)

Between 2008 and 2009 the team played briefly in the Austrian Football Division Two , but managed in the 2009 season with victory in the Iron Bowl II to promotion to the Division One .

Division One (2010 and 2011)

In the 2010 season, the team won undefeated the basic round and finally the final of the Silver Bowl XIII against the ASKÖ Steelsharks from Traun with 24: 7. After a sponsor-related change of name to AFC Kornmesser Rangers , they played again in Division One in 2011 because of a two-year suspension for promotion and relegation between Division One and the AFL , which they defeated with a 41:10 win in Silver Bowl XIV after another unbeaten season the 2nd team of the Swarco Raiders Tirol won over for a second time.

Austrian Football League (2012 and 2013)

In 2012 he was promoted to the highest Austrian league in the AFL . Increased with two US imports, it quickly became apparent that the difference in performance between Division One and the AFL had not yet been made up for. In the very first game against the Swarco Raiders Tirol it was a bitter 52-0 defeat. A remarkable series of 26 victories in a row had come to an end since the last defeat in Iron Bowl I, which the CNC Gladiators won 7:24 on July 10, 2008. At the end of the season they finished 6th and last place with ten defeats in a row. In 2013, a newly founded mini-team (U13) will also take part in the junior championship. The 2013 season in the AFL also ended with ten defeats and meant 6th place after the regular season.

Division Two and Division Three (2014)

After the voluntary exit from the AFL, the Rangers had to start again in the last possible league. However, as they have a second team starting in Division 3, as in previous years, the newly formed first team had to start in the third highest division, Division 2. The Rangers were able to win this right away by winning Iron Bowl VII and were therefore eligible for promotion to Austrian Football Division One .

Division One and Division Three (2015)

By redesigning the entire league by expanding one Austrian Football Division Four to five leagues, the second team was left in the Austrian Football Division Three . After being promoted from Austrian Football Division Two, the first team will now play in Austrian Football Division One .

Austrian Football League (from 2016)

Since the Austrian Football League was increased to 8 teams from the 2016 season, the 2015 Silver Bowl winner, the Cineplexx Blue Devils from Hohenems, and the runner-up from Mödling also joined the highest Austrian football league. Head coach Armin Schneider hired many new coaches and players such as offensive coordinator Greg Anderson, defensive backs coach Mario Floredo and the Carinthian trio Dario Dobrolevski, Niko Rabitsch and Pico Rabitsch from the Carinthian Black Lions . They won both games against their direct opponents, the Cineplexx Blue Devils, and the home games against the Prague Black Panthers and the Ljubljana Silverhawks . So they reached the wildcard games and at the end of the season came 5th. This means they will continue to play in the highest Austrian Football League in 2017.

The second team was also able to reach the final of the Austrian Football Division Three , Challenge Bowl XIII, with a successful season , but was defeated by the second team of the Vienna Knights. By increasing the whole league, the second team started in the Austrian Football Division Two from the 2017 season .
