Cinnamic acid chloride ( trans -3-phenylacrylic acid chloride) is a yellowish-crystalline chemical with a pungent odor, it melts at 35–37 ° C and boils at 256–258 ° C. It belongs to the aromatic group and is an unsaturated carboxylic acid chloride with a trans -substituted carbon-carbon double bond in the side chain. The isomeric cis -cinnamic acid chloride is of little importance. The information in this article relates only to trans -cinnamic acid chloride.
