The City of Exeter was a passenger ship of the British Ellerman Lines , which was put into service the 1,953th The ship, which was converted into a ferry in 1971 , remained in service until 1992 and was scrapped in Turkey in 1998 .

history

The City of Exeter was built under construction number 121 at Vickers-Armstrongs in Newcastle upon Tyne and was launched on July 7, 1952. After the takeover by Ellerman Lines on April 29, 1953, the ship was put into service in May on the route from London to Beira .

After eighteen years in liner service, the City of Exeter became the property of the Greek Karageorgis Lines in 1971 , which renamed it Mediterranean Sea and had it converted into a ferry in Perama . In December 1972 the ship finally took up the ferry service from Patras to Brindisi and Ancona .

The since 1974 under the flag of Cyprus ongoing Mediterranean Sea remained until September 1992, Karageorgis in driving and was subsequently used as an accommodation ship in Luanda used before in August 1995 under the name Tutku to the in Cologne was based Istanbul Sea Lines.

The ship never returned to service and was sold again in June 1997 under the name Alice , this time to a shipowner in Panama . After another year of layover, the Alice arrived on July 9, 1998 for scrapping in Aliağa, Turkey .
