The Claas Xerion is a system tractor from the agricultural machinery manufacturer Claas in Harsewinkel , which is currently being built in the third generation.

history

The development of a system tractor, the Claas HSG, began in 1968, but was suspended in 1972 with the launch of the MB-Trac , as a cooperation with Daimler-Benz was originally planned. In 1978 development was resumed. The result of this development was the Claas Xerion Project 207, with a 206 kW (280 PS) MAN engine. The Claas Xerion was presented in 1993 and has been the first Claas tractor to be sold since 1997.

Concept and variants

The Xerion is a system tractor with four steered tires of the same size. It has 3 attachment areas (hydraulic front and rear power lift, body behind the cab). In addition, some versions have a 110 mm ball coupling for gooseneck attachment behind the cabin.

Trac

The Trac is the standard version with a fixed cabin, which is arranged in the middle of the frame.

Trac VC

With the Trac VC, the cabin is also centered on the frame, but can be rotated 180 °.

Saddle Trac

With the Saddle Trac, the cabin is permanently installed above the engine in the direction of travel. This creates additional space for devices behind the cab.

landing gear

The first models of the Xerion had a welded frame in full frame construction, now it is screwed.

The axles of the Xerion are rigid axles that can be steered individually, in opposite directions or in the same direction (in crab steering ).

drive

Six-cylinder in-line engines from Daimler with up to 390 kW are used. Perkins Engines and Caterpillar engines have also been used in the past .

The original development contract included the construction of its own continuously variable transmission, the HM-8. It had 8 driving ranges and works with a hydrostatic-mechanical power split. The gearbox was awarded a gold medal at Agritechnica 1997. Claas now uses continuously variable transmissions from ZF for the Xerion .
