Claire Blanche-Benveniste (born January 15, 1935 in Lyon , Département Rhône , † April 29, 2010 in Aix-en-Provence , Département Bouches-du-Rhône ) was a French linguist and Romance scholar .

Life

Claire Blanche-Benveniste studied Romance Philology at the Sorbonne with Robert-Léon Wagner and Jean Boutière . She spent three years as an assistant in Lebanon ( Notre Dame University - Louaize ), in Lyon ( University of Lyon II ) and Paris. In 1964 she went to Jean Stéfanini in Aix-en-Provence , completed her habilitation in 1975 with Robert-Léon Wagner with her thesis Recherches en vue d'une théorie de la grammaire française and became professor of French linguistics in Aix-en-Provence. From 1994 to 2002 she was Directeur d'études at the Ecole pratique des hautes études.

reception

Claire Blanche-Benveniste's research focused on spoken French. Together with José Deulofeu, Colette Jeanjean, Jean Stéfanini and André Valli, she founded the research group Groupe aixois de recherches en syntaxe (GARS) and the magazine Recherches sur le Français Parlé (1977–2003).
