Claire Jeanne Roberte Colinet (* 1880 in Brussels , Kingdom of Belgium , † 1950 in Asnieres-sur-Seine , France ) was a French sculptor of Art Deco .

life and work

Claire Colinet was a student of the sculptor Jef Lambeaux in Brussels . After completing her training, she moved to Paris around 1910 and later lived at 59 Rue du Chateau in Asnières-sur-Seine in the greater Paris area.

In 1913 she first exhibited at the Salon of the Société des Artistes Français . The following year she received a mention honorable , a mention honorary, as Demetre Chiparus and Louis Comfort Tiffany . She continued her participation in the exhibitions in the Salon des Artistes Francais in the following years and was elected a full member of the Société in 1929. For this occasion she made a plaster cast statue with the title Les reves sont des bulles da savon ( German  dreams are soap bubbles ). In 1935 she showed a statue of the young Belgian prince and later King Albert II. Her last documented participation in these salons was in 1945. From 1937 to 1940 she had also exhibited at the Paris Salon of the Société des Artistes Indépendants . She was also a member of the Union des femmes et peintres sculpteurs ( Association of women painters and sculptors ).

Signature of Claire Jeanne Roberte Colinet

Colinet was influenced by exoticism and carried out her work in a detailed and fluid manner. Her chryselephantine figures made of bronze and ivory often had very dramatic scenes on the topic and show the models in poses, which often represent a snapshot of complicated dance steps or the climax of a biblical story or historical narrative, but also odalisques , exotic dancers, jugglers and cabaret artists . The bronze in her figures is usually patinated rather than enameled, and is occasionally set with jewels. Her statuettes were mainly made in the Parisian art foundries Edmond Etling , Arthur Goldscheider , Baroperne and Les Neveux de Jules Lehmann . The marble plinths of the figures were often multi-colored and carried bronze plaques with decorative motifs that referred to the country represented by the figure. Where the subject of the figure did not allow a cast signature (Cr. JR Colinet), this was occasionally carved into the marble.

Colinets married Godchaux around 1913; Alberto Shayo assumes that it was the French painter and sculptor Roger Godchaux (1878-1958). Her second marriage was with André Marcel Nigron in March 1929, which gave her French citizenship.
