Johann Franz von Kochius

Johann Franz von Kochius (born January 2, 1729 in Mecklenburg ; † September 29, 1797 in Reval ) was a Russian infantry general .

Life

Origin and family

Johann came from a middle-class Mecklenburg family. His father Stephan Koch (Cochius) was Bergrat , his mother was Johanna Elisabeth von Schmieden . Johann had an older sister Eva Sophia (1720-1803) who was married to Magnus Johann von Fock auf Sastama († 1782). He himself married Barbara von Schwaan in Tuttomäggi in 1758 . His second marriage followed in 1776 with Dorothea Elisabeth von Knorring , widowed Baroness Wrede . She was the sister of the Russian lieutenant general and governor of Georgia Carl Heinrich von Knorring (1746-1820). The following children are known:

Career

Kochius attended the Academy Gymnasium in St. Petersburg , entered the Russian army and took part in the Seven Years War . In 1758 he became adjutant to General en chef Stresnew. In 1763 he was transferred to the country militia in the Ukraine and in 1768 advanced to the position of colonel and commander of the Brjansk infantry regiment. Kochius took part in the Turkish War, was promoted to major general in 1773 and at the same time became commandant of Balaklava in the Crimea . With the peace treaty of the 5th Russian Turkish War in 1775 he was awarded the Order of St. Anne . He rose to lieutenant general in 1779 and was supreme commander of Reval from 1788 to 1797. During this time he also received the Order of St. Vladimir, Second Class . He was promoted to general of the infantry and at the same time appointed head of the Reval Garrison Regiment in 1797.

He was the owner of the Estonian estate Klosterhof and was enrolled in the Estonian knighthood on January 5, 1797 .
