Clarence Albertson Barlow (also " Klarenz Barlow "; born December 27, 1945 in Calcutta ) is an international composer.

Life

Of English and Portuguese descent, he belonged to the English-speaking minority in India . He wrote his first compositions at the age of 11 and graduated from Trinity College in London with a degree in natural sciences in Calcutta.

He then studied Indian classical music and simultaneously dealt with medieval and contemporary European music. From 1968 he studied composition and electronic music at the Cologne University of Music , with Bernd Alois Zimmermann and Karlheinz Stockhausen , among others .

In 1971 he started using computers for his compositions. Today he is one of the most famous representatives of computer music .

Since 1968 he lived in Cologne, since 2006 in Santa Barbara , California.
