Clarinet Contrast was a German jazz group of five clarinetists plus rhythm group, which sparked interest in the clarinet in the contemporary jazz scene and was involved in the renaissance of the clarinet in jazz and improvised music .

Act

The musical concern of Clarinet Contrast was to show the sound possibilities of the clarinet in contemporary jazz and at the same time to highlight the contrasts of the individual playing styles of its members. Although the group only gave a few concerts during its existence - it played at the German Jazz Festival Frankfurt , the Oberhausener Jazztage (with W. Breuker) and the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival (with G. Hampel instead of M. Pilz) - it resolved at the Great response from the specialist audience. The protagonists' playing styles were very far apart, and the group couldn't find a suitable record company for their ambitious project at the time. The group split up after just two years. Three members of Clarinet Contrast , Robinson, Jörgensmann and Konrad, came then in 1979 the Clarinet Summit on the New Jazz Meeting of the SWF together again. Joachim-Ernst Behrendt took up the idea of "Clarinet Contrast" and redesigned it as a summit.
