Claude Cloutier
Claude Cloutier (born July 5, 1957 in Montreal ) is a Canadian illustrator, cartoonist and animator .
Life
Cloutier studied graphics and printing at the Université du Québec until 1979 . He initially worked as an illustrator, advertising artist and cartoonist. His comic series, such as Gilles La Jungle , Nevada Allaire and La Légende des Jean-Guy , were published in Croc and Titanic magazines, among others, from 1981 . His book illustrations include works by Marie Décary and Jean-Pierre Davidts .
Cloutier joined the National Film Board of Canada in 1986 as an animator . His first film was The Persistent Peddler two years later , which was inspired by the comic La Légende des Jean-Guy . At the NFB, Cloutier made various short films for series of animations in the 1990s, including Overdose as part of the series Rights from the Heart and, between 1998 and 2000, Wheel Meets Friction , The Wonderful World of Color , Slippery Ice , The Force of Water and Internal Combustion Engine as part of the Science, Please! .
Cloutier's animated films refer in their style in part to the illustrations and etchings of the 19th century. He mostly animates his works on paper in the traditional way, resulting in Sleeping Betty and A picture of a car with drawing ink ("India Ink") on paper. Cloutier also used rotoscopy for the first time in La tranchée .
