Claude Louis Mathieu
Claude Louis Mathieu (born November 25, 1783 in Mâcon , † March 5, 1875 in Paris ) was a French mathematician and astronomer .
Mathieu worked particularly on population statistics and distance determination. From 1817 he had a position at the Bureau des Longitudes . He later became a professor at the Collège de France and in 1829 professor at the École polytechnique . He was a member of the Académie des Sciences since 1817 . Mathieu Rock is named after him in the Antarctic .
