Life

Claude Winter, daughter of the cinema owner Henri Wintergerst, studied acting for three years at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique with Béatrix Dussane. In 1953 she made her theatrical debut at the Comédie-Française , where she appeared on stage in numerous roles in classical works for the next 35 years. She has appeared as Chimène in Corneilles Le Cid and as Céphise in Racine's Andromache, among others. Directed by Raymond Rouleau, she starred in Hugos Ruy Blas , Strindberg's Ein Traumspiel and Giraudoux's Undine . As early as 1950, she had been in front of the camera for the first time for André Hunebelle's film The Galante Adventurer ( Méfiez-vous des blondes ). However, there were only a few appearances on the screen, as Winter concentrated more on her theatrical work. She was seen on television in the 1970s in filmed theater productions such as Corneilles Horace and Molières Tartuffe . Directed by Francis Girod , she played the wife of the French President ( Jean-Louis Trintignant ) in the literary film Le bon Plaisir - A political love affair ( Le Bon plaisir , 1984). In the same year it was also used in Bertrand Tavernier's A Sunday in the Country ( Un dimanche à la campagne , 1984).

In 1987 she was the first woman to be appointed doyen of the Comédie-Française. In 1988 she was temporarily the administrative director of the theater, which she left that same year. She was then an honorary member of the Comédie-Française. She also worked as a voice actress in France. She lent her voice to Susi in Disney's Susi und Tramp ( Lady and the Tramp , 1955) as well as Yvonne De Carlo in The Ten Commandments ( The Ten Commandments , 1956) and Elizabeth Taylor in Suddenly Last Summer ( Suddenly, Last Summer , 1959) and Cleopatra (1963). She last appeared as grandmother in 2010 in the film Rendez-vous avec un ange .
