Claudia Giordani (born October 27, 1955 in Milan ) is a former Italian ski racer . The 14-time Italian champion won three world cup races and the silver medal in slalom at the 1976 Winter Olympics .

biography

Giordani was one of the best Italian slalom and giant slalom runners in the 1970s . She was first in giant slalom and third in slalom at the European Junior Championships 1973 in Ruhpolding . Two weeks later she won her first points in the World Cup with a fifth place in the downhill from St. Moritz . During the next eight years she celebrated 3 World Cup victories in slalom and giant slalom and reached the podium a total of 17 times. In downhill and combined , she achieved fourth place as the best result. In the slalom classification she placed in the top ten in six seasons, and in 1976/77 she was third. In the overall World Cup, she reached eighth place twice. In the World Series of Skiing held before the start of the season , which were only part of the Nations Cup, she won the giant slalom in Bormio on December 2, 1976, and came second in the parallel slalom in St. Moritz on December 4, 1976.

Giordani celebrated the greatest success of her career at the 1976 Olympic Games in Innsbruck , when she won the silver medal in slalom behind the German Rosi Mittermaier . Four years later , she finished fifth at Lake Placid . At world championships she finished fifth in 1974 and eighth in slalom in 1978 . From 1973 to 1980 Giordani won a total of 14 Italian championship titles in all disciplines.
