Claudia Rivas Vega (born June 15, 1989 in Valparaíso) is a Mexican triathlete . She is aquathlon world champion (2008) and two-time participant in the Summer Olympics (2012, 2016).

Career

In 2005 Claudia Rivas competed in the Triathlon World Championship in Japan for the first time and finished 32nd among the juniors. She studied at the Universidad del Valle de México .

Aquathlon world champion 2008

In June 2008 the then 19-year-old Rivas became Aquathlon World Champion (2.5 km run, 1 km swim and 2.5 km run). With the fastest time of the day, she was able to win not only in the U23 class but also in the elite class.

2012 Summer Olympics

At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she finished 21st.
In October she finished fourth in the U23 World Championships on the short-distance triathlon (Olympic distance: 1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running).

2016 Summer Olympics

Claudia Rivas qualified for a place at the Summer Olympics for the second time in 2016; she started for Mexico on August 20 in Rio de Janeiro and finished ninth.

In the 2016 ITU annual ranking, she was the best Spaniard in 45th place.
In November 2019, the 30-year-old finished third at the World Cup in Santo Domingo .

Claudia Rivas lives in Monrovia (California) .
