Claudius Schulze

Claudius Schulze (* 1984 ) is a German documentary photographer . He is known for his large format landscape photography .

Life

After graduating from high school in Munich , Schulze studied Political and Islamic Studies in Hamburg from 2004 to 2007 and then conflict studies in Istanbul until 2010 . In 2011 he graduated from the MA program “Photojournalism and Documentary Photography” at the London College of Communication , University of the Arts London . He then worked as a freelance photographer for magazines, including the news magazines Der Spiegel and Stern , Neon and GEO .

He is currently doing research as part of a doctoral thesis ( Ph.D. ) about computers creativity and artistic research at the University of the Arts London.

Claudius Schulze is a regular lecturer, for example at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg or at the University of Hanover .

Artistic work

In his first monograph "Socotra" (2011) Schulze puts himself in the position of a conqueror to explore a remote island. In a complex and critical way, he deals with the cultural and v. a. literary legacy of colonialism apart.

His second photo book "State of Nature" documents the extent of climate and natural disaster protection measures in the European landscape.

Claudius Schulze traveled with a self-built houseboat from Hamburg to Amsterdam and Paris to artistically explore the relationship between nature and urbanity. The results will be shown at the Hamburg Phototriennale 2018.

  • 2012: VG Bild Kunst, Stiftung Kulturwerk, working grant for a project on natural disasters and climate change
  • 2012: Claudius Schulze is the first photographer to be included in Medium Magazin 's annual list of the most important young German journalists “30 under 30” .
