Claudius Traunfellner (born February 7, 1965 in Vienna ) is an Austrian conductor .

life and career

Claudius Traunfellner received violin lessons at the Vienna Conservatory , where he completed his studies in 1986. Already in 1985 he had obtained the artistic diploma for choir and ensemble direction here. From 1987 to 1989 he studied conducting with Karl Österreicher at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna .

In 1985 Traunfellner founded the Vienna Chamber Philharmonic , which he has been artistic director ever since. With this and other orchestras the conductor has made numerous appearances at home and abroad, in all renowned concert halls in Austria as well as in the USA, Canada, South America, Japan, Taiwan, France, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Poland , Czech Republic, Slovakia, Greece,

Claudius Traunfellner is often hired as a guest conductor by other orchestras. He has worked as a guest conductor with the Bolzano Orchestra (1991), the Wroclaw Philharmonic (1992), the Orchester National du Capitole de Toulouse (1992), the Orchester National de Lyon (1990), the Orchester Lamoureux (2002), the Orchester d 'Auvergne (2004), the Orchester de Bretagne (2003), the Orchester national des pays de la Loire (2003), the RSO Saarbrücken (2003), the Bruckner Orchester Linz (1993), the RSO Vienna (1993 and 1995) , the NTO (1994, 1997 and 1999), the KSO (1996), the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Philharmonic (1996), the Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra (1994, 1997 and 1999), the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra (1996, 2002 ), the Vienna Chamber Orchestra (1990–1996) and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra (1998).

Also at international festivals such as the Vienna Festival Weeks , the Vienna Music Summer, the Vienna Spring Festival, the Vienna Mozart Festival, Wien Modern , the Haydn Days and the festivals in Toulon, Montpellier, Le Mans, St. Gallen, Rovereto, Stresa, Claudius Traunfellner conducted Ferrara, Flanders, the Lake Constance Festival , the Rheingau Music Festival , the Mozart Festival in Würzburg , the Carinthian Summer and the Schubertiade Vorarlberg .

The opera productions that Traunfellner has directed in Vienna and Bregenz include Le nozze di Figaro , Il Barbiere di Sevilla and La Cenerentola . Traunfellner's repertoire ranges from the baroque to the modern, with the conductor paying particular attention to works by Austrian composers. Claudius Traunfellner has recorded several CDs with the Vienna Chamber Philharmonic, the RSO Vienna and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, including serenades, symphonies and concert arias by Mozart, Schoenberg's "Transfigured Night" and numerous works by living Austrian composers.
