Lake Constance Festival
The Bodenseefestival is a festival program founded in 1989 by the then Südwestfunk (today: Südwestrundfunk ) and the cities of Friedrichshafen and Konstanz as the International Bodenseefestival , which includes numerous individual events.
It takes place every year from the first weekend in May to Whit Monday around Lake Constance .
history
The festival has been organized by Bodensee-Festival GmbH in Friedrichshafen since 1993 . At the Bodensee Festival GmbH are the SWR , the city, Friedrichshafen , the canton of St. Gallen , the city of Constance , the city Ravensburg and another 16 cities and municipalities in the region and public cultural institutions from Germany , the Switzerland and Austria involved. Winfried Neumann and Katharina Ess are currently (2018) the managing directors of Bodensee-Festival GmbH . The main idea of the festival is to enliven and strengthen the common and connecting culture in the culturally related, but politically divided Lake Constance area. "The existing cultural forces in the region should be bundled and complemented by internationally known artists and ensembles."
The festival offers a diverse range of cultural activities, from orchestral , chamber and organ concerts to jazz and ballet to theater , literature , exhibitions and film presentations . "In the past, the culture of a European country was the focus of the festival."
subjects
From 1989 to 1998 a European country was the focus of the International Lake Constance Festival. Since 1999 the annual Lake Constance Festival has had a specific theme, and since 2005 a renowned artist has given the festival an additional accent as Artist in Residence . Since 2014 the festival has been returning to its original concept and once again putting a country at the center of the events.
