He is a university professor at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and chief surgeon in surgery at the Holweide municipal hospital . Eisenberger is known for his clinical work in the areas of visceral medicine, endocrine surgery , oncological surgery and hepatobillary surgery of the liver and pancreas . Claus F. Eisenberger is the son of the urologist Ferdinand Eisenberger .

Life

Eisenberger studied human medicine at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen and received his license to practice medicine in 1995. From 1995 to 2003 he worked at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf , first as an intern, then as a research assistant and assistant doctor. In 1997 he completed a one-year research stay at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in the USA. In 2002, Eisenberger was recognized as a specialist in surgery and completed his habilitation a year later at the University of Hamburg on the subject of examinations for the diagnosis and staging of solid malignant tumors using microsatellite analysis . In 2003 he moved to Düsseldorf , where he first worked as a senior physician, then as a senior senior physician at the clinic for general, visceral and pediatric surgery at the Düsseldorf University Hospital. In 2004 he was recognized as a specialist in visceral surgery and in 2009 as a specialist in thoracic surgery. In 2009 the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf appointed Eisenberger as an adjunct professor. Also in 2009 he became Deputy Director of the Clinic for General, Visceral and Pediatric Surgery. Eisenberger has been chief surgeon at the Holweide municipal hospital since 2011 .

Scientific contribution

Eisenberger's scientific activity began with his doctoral thesis in the field of transplant surgery with the title "Simulation of organ preservation and reperfusion conditions in liver cell culture models: influencing the expression of histocompatibility antigens ".

In addition to his clinical work, he mainly worked in the field of oncological research . The focus was on growing cell cultures that were grown from micrometastatic tumor cells from solid tumors. He conducted studies on the quality of life of patients with inflammatory bowel disease and on the treatment of chronic pancreatitis .

As part of his research with the working group in Hamburg, Eisenberger gained extensive experience in experimental sepsis therapy . As part of a research grant from the DFG at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore USA, Eisenberger researched the microdissemination of malignant tumors by micro-satellite analysis in serum in patients with malignant tumors. He was able to continue this research with further grants from the DFG and the Werner Otto Foundation in Hamburg. After his habilitation in 2003, Eisenberger devoted himself to further extensive clinical questions, especially in the endocrine working group at the University Hospital Düsseldorf with work on the staging and outcome of neuroendocrine tumors . He also researched the use of NOTES procedures in surgery as well as liver resection and liver regeneration procedures.

In his clinical work, Eisenberger was the operator in charge of the intestinal center and the pancreas center at the University Hospital Düsseldorf. At the clinics of the City of Cologne, he heads the oncological center, the intestinal center and the competence center for thyroid and parathyroid surgery.

Memberships in scientific associations (selection)

Eisenberger is a member of numerous scientific associations. These include: German Society for Surgery , German Society for General and Visceral Surgery , German Society for Thoracic Surgery, German Cancer Society (senior bowel surgeon ) and the Endourological Society. He is also a member of the editorial boards of the scientific journals SRN Surgery and Langenbeck's Archives of Surgery .
