Cleavant Derricks

Cleavant Derricks, Jr. (Born May 15, 1953 in Knoxville , Tennessee ) is an American actor and singer who is best known in Germany for the television series Sliders .

Life

The black actor with comedic talent initially played in many plays and musicals . Some of them are in Jesus Christ Superstar and Dreamgirls , for which he received the 1982 Tony Award . In 1986 he was nominated again for the Tony Award, as best actor (in a musical) for Big Deal .

Since 1978 he has appeared in various television and cinema films. For example in The Bronx with Paul Newman or in The Woman of the Professional with Hal Ashby . On television he has appeared in various short-lived series such as Good Sports (1991), Woops! (1992) and Something Wilder (1995), none of which made it onto German television.

He was able to record a greater success with the role of soul singer Rembrandt Lee Brown alias Crying Man in the SF series Sliders - The Gate into a Foreign Dimension . Although he slipped into the plot by chance in the pilot, he is the only one left from the original Sliders team after various cast changes. In several episodes he was doubled by his brother Clinton Derricks-Carroll . After a long time Derricks was in Wes Cravens Carnival of Souls (1998) to see again in the cinema. Cleavant currently lives in Agoura Hills , California and is married to Portia Derricks , who wrote the book So You Want To Be In Show Business! wrote. His father, Cleavant Derricks , was a pastor and songwriter for over 300 gospel songs.
