Clem Curtis

Clem Curtis , actually Curtis Clements (born November 28, 1940 in Trinidad , West Indies , † March 27, 2017 in Olney , Buckinghamshire , England ) was a British singer. From 1966 to 1968 he was the lead singer of the group The Foundations .

Life

Clem Curtis was born on the island of Trinidad in 1940 to a popular singer whom he said he inherited his ear for music from her. At the age of 15 he came to Great Britain and initially worked as a decorator and professional boxer. At the age of 25 he joined the group The Ramong Sound , later renamed The Foundations . After being in 1968 by Colin Young had been replaced, he started with the support of his friend Sammy Davis, Jr. on a solo career in the United States . In America he worked, encouraged by Wilson Pickett and Sam & Dave , in the club scene of the time. In Las Vegas he performed with the Righteous Brothers, among others . In the 1970s he returned to England and reformed the Foundations , which had performances at the London Palladium , the Royal Albert Hall , as well as in clubs, hotels and concerts around the world. At the end of the 1980s he belonged to the four other stars of the then beat music era Reg Presley , Brian Poole , Mike Pender and Tony Crane of the supergroup The Corporation , which only existed for a short time. In 2016, he starred in the movie Flashback: The History of UK Black Music .

Clem Curtis died on March 27, 2017 at the age of 76 of complications from lung cancer .
