Clemens Heidenreich Count Franz Droste zu Vischering (born August 14, 1832 in Münster , † August 20, 1923 in Wasserschloss Darfeld ) was a Prussian landowner and German politician.

Life

Origin and family

Droste zu Vischering comes from the Westphalian nobility family Droste zu Vischering , one of the oldest and most important in Westphalia. His parents were Maximilian Heidenreich Ludwig Droste zu Vischering (* 1794, † 1849) and Auguste von Aicholt (* 1800, † 1840). His grandfather was Adolf Heidenreich Droste zu Vischering .

Career

Clemens Heidenreich studied at the Universities of Bonn and Berlin Jura . At the Tharandt Forest Academy , he acquired knowledge for his later duties as entertainer . After the death of his father he became heir droste to Darfeld.

From 1863 to 1866 he was a member of the first chamber of the Kingdom of Hanover . In 1862 (as representative of the Duke of Croy), 1864 to 1885 (for the status of knighthood in the electoral district of West-Münster) and again in 1892 (for the constituency of Coesfeld) he was a member of the Westphalian provincial parliament , where he became the spokesman for the moderate- established conservative nobles. From 1865 to 1873 he held the position of honorary officer in the Darfeld office, from which he resigned due to disciplinary proceedings .

In 1874 Droste zu Vischering rose to chair the Central Committee of German Catholics . In 1879, as a candidate for the Center Party , he received the majority of the votes in his constituency (Darfeld) and entered the Reichstag , of which he was a member until 1893.

After the end of his career as a member of the Reichstag, Droste zu Vischering was President of the German Catholic Days (1898 to 1920). During this time he was awarded the title of Knight of Honor of the Order of Malta and became the secret chamberlain of Pope Leo XIII. In 1901 Kaiser Wilhelm II appointed him to the Prussian mansion , to which he belonged until the November Revolution of 1918.

His daughter Maria Droste zu Vischering is venerated as a blessed in the Catholic Church.
