The Cleopatra was a passenger steamer of the Austrian Lloyd , which was used by the Austro-Hungarian Navy from 1915 to 1916 as a submarine escort and accommodation ship during the First World War . After the end of the war, the ship sailed as Italian war booty until 1928 for Lloyd Triestino, which emerged from the Austrian Lloyd .

Construction and technical data

The ship was launched on 14 March 1895 at Caird & Company in Scotland's Greenock with the hull number 277 from the stack . It was 114.8 m long and 13.7 m wide and had a 6.16 m draft and a side height of 8.84 m. It was measured with 4082 BRT and 2197 NRT . The Cleopatra (one chimney, two masts with loading gear fore and aft ) was equipped with a 3-cylinder compound steam engine from Caird & Company, which delivered 772 nhp .

history

The Trieste- based Austrian Lloyd used the Cleopatra in its Black Sea liner and postal service.

In the war years 1915 and 1916 she was in Cattaro from the kuk -Kriegsmarine and from Pola operating and Cattaro German U-Flotilla Pola as a barge used.

When Trieste fell to Italy in 1919, Österreichischer Lloyd came under Italian administration and was renamed Lloyd Austriaco. When the shipping company finally passed into Italian ownership as spoils of war in 1921 and was renamed Lloyd Triestino, it resumed passenger service and with it the Cleopatra got going again. Towards the end of 1928 it was then canceled in Genoa .
