Cleopatra Stratan (born October 6, 2002 in Chișinău , Republic of Moldova ) is the daughter of the songwriter Pavel Stratan and his wife Rodica Stratan. She is the youngest singer to ever achieve a number one hit ; her best-known song Ghiță was a hit nationally and internationally.

Career

Pavel Stratan worked on his third album in Bucharest in 2005 . His young daughter was there when the recording was made and played in the studio while her father recorded his songs. While listening to the song Mama , she spontaneously picked up one of the free microphones and sang along. The studio crew was enthusiastic about the random recording and it was decided to let them sing more songs. From these recordings the album La vârsta de trei ani (translator: At the age of three) was born, which was released in 2006 in Romania. With 150,000 units sold, the record became a great surprise success and was honored with two times platinum and an MTV Award for the best album in Romania in 2006. A particular hit was the song Ghiță , which was number one on the charts in Romania for five weeks.

The song is about a little girl who sadly waits for her best friend in front of the school entrance every evening. However, he does not come because he has left the village and emigrated. It describes the reality of many Moldovan children as, due to poverty, many citizens leave the country and look for work abroad.

The song also gained international fame through word of mouth among Romanians and Moldovans living abroad and through YouTube . The album was then released in Japan , Taiwan , South Korea , Spain and Mexico . In addition to the Romanian original, Cleopatra also sang an English-language and a Russian-language version.

She had her first appearance on August 20, 2006, when the three-year-old gave a two-hour concert in front of 400 visitors in the Bucharest Teatrul Nottara, accompanied by her father on the guitar. In December 2006, the now four-year-old performed at a Christmas gala in Piatra Neamț and received 10,000 US dollars for singing a single song . Her father later donated the entire sum to charity on a television show. At the same time he announced that Cleopatra would not make any more appearances for the time being after the enormous media hype.

In May 2007 she received two Music Awards at the MTV România awards ceremony in Sibiu , one for Best New Artist and one for Best Song.

In 2008, her father decided to record a new album with Cleopatra, which was released based on the first under the title La vârsta de cinci ani (translator: at the age of five). From this album, the song Zunea-Zunea was a hit. On December 13, 2008, her little brother was born in Chișinău , who was baptized in the name of Cezar at her suggestion.

At the end of 2009 her third album was released, on which she sings Romanian Christmas carols together with her father in the Romanian-speaking area Colinde .

At the end of 2017 the song Mami was published, which Stratan recorded and sang together with her brother Cezar. The song Te las cu inima was released in June 2018 . The song by Cat Music was released on YouTube on June 12, 2018. On January 15, 2019, she released the song Adio .

Until 2011 Cleopatra lived with her parents and brother in Chișinău, the capital of Moldova, and went to school there. The family then moved to Romania and now lives in Bucharest.

Records

The song Ghiță , released on their first album, was number one on the Romanian charts for five weeks in 2006 , at a time when Cleopatra was only four years old. According to the Guinness Book of Records, this makes her the youngest singer to ever achieve a number one hit in a country. The record was held by the French child star Jordy before her and Shirley Temple before that .

Cleopatra has also received an MTV Award as the youngest musician to date (2006 Best New Album in Romania, 2007 Best Song and Best New Artist) and is considered the youngest singer to have completed a two-hour concert.
