Cleretum is a plant kind from the family of aizoaceae (Aizoaceae). The botanical name of the genus is derived from the Greek word cleros for "fate".

description

The species of the genus Cleretum grow as prostrate to ascending annual , herbaceous plants . Their basal internodes are long. The flat leaves are more or less spatulate to pinnate.

The short-stalked flowers are white or yellow. The flowering period extends from late winter to spring, i. H. the plants bloom in their homeland from July to October. The stems of the capsule fruits are S-shaped or straight. They are funnel-shaped to cup-shaped at their base and rarely round. The fruits contain triangular to square seeds when viewed from the side .

Systematics and distribution

The distribution area of the genus Cleretum extends in South Africa in the Northern Cape Province from Calvinia through Namaqualand to the city of Sutherland and includes the western parts of the Western Cape Province .

It was first described in 1925 by Nicholas Edward Brown . The genus Cleretum includes the following species:
