Clint Aaron Davies (born April 24, 1983 in Perth , Australia ) is a former Australian soccer player . The goalkeeper was active as a professional in England from 2002 to 2006, but mostly only a substitute player.

Career

Goalkeeper at Birmingham City

Davies learned to play football in Perth at a club called Whitfords, and when he was 13 or 14 he moved to Hammers Academy , which was initially associated with Kingsway Olympic and later became part of Inglewood United . In 1999 he completed a multi-month trial at English club Southampton FC and then played at Birmingham City in front, giving it a three-year apprenticeship offered (dt. Training). Davies first prevailed in the U-17 and U-19 teams from Birmingham and then established himself in the reserve team. 2001 and 2002 he won with the youth team the Tournoi de Croix in the French Croix .

In May 2002 he received his first professional contract after he had previously been a substitute goalkeeper for the matchday squad. Birmingham in 2002 was the first time in the Premier League risen, but while his compatriot Stan Lazaridis in the 2002/03 season performers in the squad was, came on the goalkeeper position Nico Vaesen (27 missions), Ian Bennett (10) and Andy Marriott (1) to Commitment. In order to collect match practice, he was awarded several times to lower class teams during his time at Birmingham. Even before receiving his professional contract, he helped out in the Southern League Western Division at Bromsgroove Rovers and Halesowen Town , and from early 2003 on loan stays at Tamworth FC in the Southern League Premier Division and in the Conference at Nuneaton Borough and Woking FC . At the end of the season, his one-year professional contract was not renewed by Birmingham coach Steve Bruce and Davies left the club after a total of four years of service.

Further professional career in England

Davies found a new club with the second division club Bradford City , who immediately loaned the goalkeeper to Halifax Town for a year in the fifth division . At Halifax he was a regular goalkeeper at the start of the season, but lost this place in September after signing the experienced goalkeeper Mark Cartwright . The loan finally ended in mid-October 2003, when he was recalled by Bradford due to multiple injuries. His competitive debut in the Football League he finally gave on January 31, 2004 in the away game against Gillingham FC , when he replaced goalkeeper Alan Combe , who was sent off in the 45th minute . Two months later, his second appearance followed, but the game at Sheffield United was also lost. The relegation of the financially ailing club was already certain a few weeks before the end of the season and Bradford coach Bryan Robson informed Davies early on that he would refrain from further commitment.

Davies found a new employer in the third division Bristol City in the summer of 2004, but remained there behind long-time goalkeeper Steve Phillips and left the club after a year. Davies slipped further down in the English league system and joined the fifth division FC Woking for the 2005/06 season . There his competitor Shwan Jalal was given preference and Davies only made two league appearances until his departure at the end of the season. It is not known whether Davies was active in football in the following years. Around 2010 he returned to Perth and from 2010 appeared again in football in Western Australia . With the lower class club Wanneroo City , he won the 2013 First Division championship . The following season Davies joined the higher-class club Balcatta FC , where he ended his active career after 62 league appearances in three seasons after the 2016 season.

Selection teams

The youth selection player from Western Australia was not only eligible to play for Australia, but also for the four British associations internationally. In 2001 Davies took part in a training camp in Austria with a Northern Irish U-18 selection , but he declined an appointment in the Northern Irish U-19 selection for qualifying for the U-19 European Championship in 2002 , in order to open up his international future hold. In September 2002 he took part in a training camp in Germany with the Australian Olympic team and was part of a test match against Bayer 04 Leverkusen . However, there were no further appointments afterwards.
