Clinton Adams

Clinton Adams (born December 11, 1918 in Glendale , California , † May 13, 2002 in Albuquerque , New Mexico ) was an American artist and art historian who was particularly successful with lithographs .

career

Adams first studied fine arts at the University of California at Los Angeles ( MA 1942) and then served in the US Air Force during World War II . After the end of the war he returned to his alma mater in 1946 and taught here until 1954, from 1948 he was appointed assistant professor here. In 1954 he moved to the University of Kentucky in Lexington, where he not only became a full professor, but also curated the university's own art gallery. From 1954 to 1957 he taught at the University of Florida and finally from 1961 until his retirement in 1985 at the University of New Mexico . In 1970 he moved the Tamarind Lithography Workshop , previously located in Los Angeles , which he founded with June Wayne in 1960, to his department; This workshop provided important impulses for contemporary American lithography. In 1983 Adams published a survey of the history of lithography since 1900. In 1992, Adams was elected a full member ( NA ) of the National Academy of Design .

His own works influenced by classical modernism (in addition to prints, oil paintings and watercolors) are shown in the Museum of Modern Art , the Brooklyn Museum , the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston , and the Art Institute of Chicago .
