Clive Rose

Sir Clive Martin Rose , GCMG ( September 15, 1921 - April 17, 2019 ) was a British diplomat who was, among other things, Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to NATO from 1979 to 1982 .

Life

Clive Martin Rose was the son of Alfred Rose , who was Bishop of Dover of the Church of England from 1935 to 1957 , and his wife Lois Juliet Rose. He began by visiting the Marlborough College to study at Christ Church of University of Oxford . During the Second World War he had to interrupt his studies and in 1942 became a lieutenant (Second Lieutenant) of the 95th Rifles Rifle Regiment of the Rifle Brigade (The Prince Consort's Own) . In the following years he served in Europe between 1944 and 1945, in British India in 1945 and finally after the war from 1945 to 1946 in Iraq , where he was last promoted to major . He then continued his studies and in 1948 entered the Ministry of Affairs for the Commonwealth of Nations (Commonwealth Relations Office) , for which he worked from 1948 to 1949 in the office of the Deputy High Commissioner in Madras .

1950 Rose joined the diplomatic service (HM Diplomatic Service) Ministry of Foreign Affairs ( Foreign and Commonwealth Office ) . In the following years he found numerous uses at diplomatic missions abroad and in the Foreign Ministry. After working in the Foreign Ministry between 1950 and 1953, he was only employed in the office of High Commissioner in Germany from 1953 to 1954 and then in 1955 at the newly established embassy in the Federal Republic of Germany . After working again in the Foreign Ministry between 1956 and 1959, he served as First Secretary and Consul at the Embassy in Uruguay from 1959 to 1962 . After a renewed assignment from 1962 to 1965 in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he became counselor for trade affairs at the embassy in France in 1965 and remained at this post until 1967. In 1967 he became Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) for his services .

Clive Rose then graduated from Imperial Defense College in 1968 and was then counselor at the US embassy between 1969 and 1971 . On his return, he held the post of Assistant Under-Secretary for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Defense and Intelligence from 1971 to 1973 . He then acted between 1973 and 1976 as the head of the British delegation in the negotiations for mutual and balanced force reductions MBFR ( Mutual and Balanced Force Reductions ) in Vienna . In 1976 he was promoted to Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) and has since had the addition of Sir .

Sir Clive Rose then moved to the Cabinet Office ( Cabinet Office ) , in which he 1976-1979 Deputy State Secretary for Defense and Overseas Affairs (Deputy Secretary, Defense and Overseas Affairs) was. Most recently he replaced Sir John Killick as Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to NATO in 1979 and remained in this position until he retired in 1982, whereupon Sir John Graham, 4th Baronet, succeeded him there. In 1981 he was raised to the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George (GCMG).

His marriage to Elisabeth Mackenzie Rose, daughter of Reverend Cyril Lewis, in 1946 resulted in two sons and three daughters.
