The city is located at the geographical coordinates of 36.82 ° north, 119.70 ° west. The urban area has a size of 44.3 km². Clovis is located on the northeastern edge of Fresno , halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles in the fertile San Joaquin Valley at the foot of the Sierra Nevada .
