Clown Ferdinand was a fictional character , which by the Czech actor Jiří Vršťala was represented. Clown Ferdinand , also published as a book in 1966, marked the beginning of the collaboration between the author Ota Hofman and the director Jindřich Polák .

history

Vršťala invented the character together with Jindřich Polák . The popular clown produced films and records and performed on stages. His children's revues in the old Friedrichstadt-Palast in Berlin were always sold out. It was here that Peter Kersten began his career as "Zauberpeter" at the side of clown Ferdinand.

Clown Ferdinand was originally in 1956 for a series of GDR television invented; A feature film was produced in 1963. In the 1970s and 1980s, further films were made for television in the GDR without the help of Jindřich Polák. Some of these productions were also shown on West German WDR .

The trademarks of the clown Ferdinand are his big sunflower on the left side of his coat and his self-made caravan - in addition to his typical clown high and bald forehead, the fiery red hair, the black and white painted face, the red round rubber nose, the colorful checkered coat, the red and yellow stripe T-shirt, the wide trousers, the huge deep coat pockets and the even bigger handkerchief.

Clown Ferdinand combines fairy tale and fantasy motifs that appear actively in children's everyday life. With his caravan, accompanied by the parrot Robert, he goes through the world and gets to know it. Because of his clumsiness, he usually creates a lot of chaos. Once he even flies into space with a rocket.
