Peter Kersten (magician, 1943)

Peter Kersten (born July 26, 1943 in Forst ), artist name Zauberpeter or The Magic Doctor , is a German presenter and magician who achieved cult status on GDR television through his own programs such as "Zauber auf Schloß Kuckuckstein" . The Castle Kuckuckstein and his Butler Edward (played by Edgar Külow ) of the series gave the background.

Live and act

In GDR times

He studied chemistry at the University of Jena and wrote his dissertation. Kersten had his first television appearance in 1964 when he appeared as a magician in a Heinz Quermann talent show . In 1974 he began his career in Berlin at the revue “Hokus Pokus Ferdinand” at the side of clown Ferdinand . In 1977 Peter Kersten was nominated as a guest magician by the Academy of Magical Arts in Hollywood and received the "Magic Oscar".

More than 40 programs of his first own television show "Köpfchen", which he hosted as a student, were broadcast. After obtaining his doctorate in physics and chemistry, he switched completely to show business.

By 1985, the DFF ran over a hundred episodes of his children's program “Kunterbunt”. He also appeared on the evening show " Ein Kessel Buntes ".

After the turn

In the preliminary round of the Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson on March 21, 1991 in the Friedrichstadtpalast , Berlin, "A Song for Rome" he took over the show part alongside Hape Kerkeling .

He also had a guest appearance in Dieter Hallervorden's Berlin cabaret " Die Wühlmäuse ".

In 2014, Peter Kersten toured Germany with his theater program “Wunder inclusive” and created the video production “Learn magic child's play” for children.

Travel and reports

Kersten has been shooting since 1995 a. a. also for the international magazine "Windrose" of the MDR television travel films and reports on the cultures and flora and fauna of his travel destinations. The passionate photographer, cameraman and diver are particularly fascinated by the South Pacific archipelago of Vanuatu . During his stays there (approx. 14 months, spread over 5 years) he collected unusual pictures and stories and thus presented a picture of the country, the culture, the people and special events. Kersten owns one of the most extensive German TV archives in this group of islands .

The MDR also ran large Christmas reports, such as “ Christmas Eve on Christmas Island ” (2004) and “Santa Claus in Carnival ” (2005). He did magic in a school on Fidji , on the Batur volcano in Bali , for lizards on Bonaire , in the jungle of Vanuatu and under water.

Private

Peter Kersten lives on Sumba in Indonesia and in Coswig in Saxony. He is married to an Indonesian woman.
