occupation

Clowns is a crime comedy and a romance film by director Tim Trageser , who also wrote the screenplay, from 2001. Frank Giering plays the leading role as the unemployed actor Nick, who temporarily works as a clown in order to make a living an explosive mix-up is involved.

action

Nick is basically an actor through and through. However, since he is without a job, he plays the clown on various children's birthday parties in order to be able to make a living. Coincidence would have it that the criminal and mentally confused Joe, also disguised as a clown, is up to mischief as a bank robber.

There is also Charlie, a check fraudster who was caught by the two police officers Schäfer and Bernauer and is on her way to prison in a patrol car. The overzealous officers arrest Nick when they discover him in his car, with which he is currently stuck in a traffic jam. They firmly believe that he is the wanted bank robber disguised as a clown. So Nick finds himself next to Charlie in the patrol car. Charlie, however, only has her son Robin in mind, whom she has to pick up from the children's home.

When the two officers Schäfer and Bernauer cheerfully celebrate the two arrests and look forward to an early promotion, Charlie takes the opportunity to get behind the wheel of the stiffened car himself to flee with it. Nick, who is still in the vehicle, doesn't like the escape at all, because he'd rather clear up the misunderstanding. But nothing comes of it, Charlie is consistent and continues to accelerate to get to the children's home as quickly as possible.

Once there, the two are expected by the police. Police superintendent Fuchs firmly believes that Nick and Charlie are accomplices and has Charlie's son Robin under surveillance so that his mother can be arrested. Nick manages to save Charlie from this trap, and he is still on the run with her. Afterwards, the two of them hide in a broom closet in the children's home, where they begin to forge further plans and mentally play out various escape options. The two really get to know each other and get closer.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films says that clowns are characterized by a good performance by their actors, but complains that in the course of the film it is not really clear what the film is actually supposed to be: a love story or a crime comedy?
