Clyde is a city in Callahan County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located in the northwest of the county, slightly north of the geographic center of Texas, and has a total area of 6.2 km² without any significant water surface.
history
The first settlers came around 1876. Why the place got this name is not certain. Most likely, some of the crew of a foreman of the Texas and Pacific Railway Company named Clyde, which was called the Clydes at the time of the railway construction , have settled here.

According to the 2000 census, 3,345 people in 1,292 households and 989 families lived here. The population density was 540.4 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 96.29% White, 0.36% African American , 0.39% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, and 1.58% other ethnic groups. About 1.08% were mixed race and 4.04% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,292 households, 36.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.2% of these were married couples living together. 13.9% were single mothers and 23.4% were non-families. 22.0% of all households were single households and there were people living in 12.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 people; the average family size was 2.96 people.
28.7% of the population were younger than 18, 6.8% 18 to 24, 25.0% 25 to 44, 21.8% 45 to 64, and 17.7% 65 years or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 86.6 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 82.5 men.
