Clyde Prestowitz

Clyde V. Prestowitz Jr. (* 1941 in Wilmington , Delaware ) is the founder and president of the Economic Strategy Institute (ESI) in Washington . He was a counselor to the US Secretary of Commerce under President Ronald Reagan . As a writer and publicist, he writes regularly for the New York Times , Washington Post, and Foreign Affairs magazine .

Prestowitz is a well-known expert on US politics. His book “ Rogue State. Where is America headed? “Was named one of The Economist's Best Books of 2003 in the Politics and Current Affairs category. He describes America's ambivalent role in world politics and the causes of US unilateralism and isolationism .

In May 2012 Prestowitz caused a sensation with a guest contribution for the news portal CNN on the topic of the euro crisis , since he now considers the Federal Republic of Germany to be too competitive for the euro and advises the German government to leave the European monetary union . In his opinion, this is the only way to save the euro.
