Jacobus (Co) Westerik (born March 2, 1924 in The Hague ; † September 10, 2018 in Rotterdam ) was a Dutch painter . He studied at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague.

life and work

After completing his studies in 1947, Westerik painted his picture De Visvrouw (The Fish Woman), with which he won the Jacob Maris Prize for Painting in 1951 . As a result, his works have been bought by numerous major Dutch museums, including the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag , Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen .

From 1958 to 1971 Westerik was a lecturer at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague. With the u. a. The Hague artists Herman Berserik , Jan van Heel , Willem Hussem and Jaap Nanninga , Westerik was a member of the artist group Verve .

Westerik's work includes paintings, drawings, lithographs and watercolors .

In his first marriage Westerik was married to the artist Hens de Jong , in his second marriage he was married to the gallery owner Fenna de Vries . Westerik worked in his studios in Rotterdam and the south of France.
