Al-Karama ( Arabic for "dignity"; officially Arabic ائتلاف الكرامة, DMG Iʾtilāf al-Karāma , French Coalition de la dignité , German Coalition of Dignity ) is a right-wing extremist Islamist party in Tunisia , which was founded in the run-up to the presidential election in Tunisia 2019 .

history

The founding of a new party in the Islamist camp in January 2019 was a reaction to the decision of the Ennahda as a Muslim democratic party to give up militant Islamism .

The party's president, Seifeddine Makhlouf , known as a defender of alleged Salafists , took part in Tunisia's 2019 presidential election, scooping 4.37 percent in the first round. He clearly missed the runoff election. In the parliamentary election in Tunisia in 2019 , which took place shortly afterwards , the party won 21 seats with 5.94 percent of the vote. After the parliamentary election, the party was basically open to a coalition with the Ennahda, but refused to hold talks with the secular Qalb Tounes party .

Political positions

Islamism

Al Karama supports the inclusion of Sharia law in the constitution of the Republic of Tunisia and rejects the equality of men and women in inheritance law. She also advocates the death penalty , where there is a freeze on executions in Tunisia. In addition, Al Karama speaks out against any legalization of homosexuality in criminal law.

In the party, people from circles of radical preachers and bloggers , as well as Islamists from the former, now banned Ligue de protection de la révolution ( German league for the protection of the revolution ) gather .

France and imperialism policy

Seifeddine Makhlouf is known for his Francophobia and particularly virulent remarks about France , which he described as occupying Tunisia and stealing his wealth. He calls for an apology for 70 years of painful colonization by the former motherland of Tunisia. He also promised to terminate the Franco-Tunisian agreements if elected. He rejects the use of the French language in Tunisia. In contrast, shortly after the parliamentary election on October 10, 2019, the party's president declared in a conference that France was the most important country for Tunisia and also denied having announced that he would break off diplomatic relations with France.

electorate

The Tunisian Islamism expert Zied Krichene, founder of the newspaper al-Maghreb , explained the success of Al Karama with the more moderate content reorganization of the Ennahda after the revolution in Tunisia 2010/2011 and the orientation of Al Karama towards jihadist Islamism with a completely unrestrained leader in Form of Seifeddine Makhlouf. In this way, the party mainly reaches the youth.
