Cobra is an American action - crime series with Michael Dudikoff in the lead role. Only one season of 23 episodes was produced and broadcast from September 1993 to May 1994. The German first broadcast took place from October 9, 1994 to April 1995 on RTL II. The television series was later repeated by tm3 and Tele 5 .
action
Robert "Scandal" Jackson, Jr., is an ex- Navy SEAL who deserted after refusing to blow up an enemy command center in a civilian apartment building. He disappeared into the Alaskan wilderness , changed his name and appearance, and became a teacher in a small Eskimo community. But part of his past caught up with him, he was shot in the face, fell into a coma and, believed to be dead, was left there. He woke up in a hospital three weeks later and found that he had been given a new face and chance in life thanks to a woman named Danielle LaPoint.
Danielle offered him a job at Cobra , a covert anti-crime agency. Cobra brings justice to those crime victims who have not benefited from the legal system.
Scandal is reluctant to leave his Alaskan life behind. But then Danielle's boss, Dallas Cassel, makes him an offer that he cannot refuse: He is given the opportunity to catch the man who murdered his father five years ago. Behind the wheel of his classic AC Cobra sports car, Scandal brings justice to the fictional Bay City.
background
The main roles in the television series Cobra are played by Michael Dudikoff (leading actor in the American Fighter series), Allison Hossack , and James Tolkan (Mr. Strickland from the Back to the Future trilogy ).
Cobra was invented by well-known television producer Stephen J. Cannell along with Steven Long Mitchell and Craig W. Van Sickle, who later developed the television series Pretender for NBC and were the executive producers. The series was filmed on location in Vancouver , British Columbia , Canada . Lee Goldberg and William Rabkin were the supervising producers of the television series and later were executive producers of Diagnosis: Mord , Martial Law - Der Karate-Cop and other television series. Matt Dearborn , a consultant for Cobra , produced several sitcoms for the Disney Channel, including Even Stevens .
Cobra was originally called Viper . However, Chrysler Corp. sued Stephen J. Cannell for trademark infringement and also because Chrysler was already working with CBS on a television series called Viper , which was supposed to feature a brand new concept car of the Dodge Viper , but which eventually ran on NBC. Since this television series was about a modern day version of Knight Rider and Cannell's television series was about a crime hunter, Canell figured that the name could be changed without changing the creative concept of the television series and therefore the title of the television series was changed to Cobra . Three episodes had already been filmed when the title change was made, so it appears that Scandal would still have driven the Cobra if the television series had also been called Viper.
Canadian rock band Saga was hired to produce the theme song and a few other songs for the television series that were intended to be used in special episodes, but most were never used. Saga's album Steel Umbrellas , released in 1994, contained most of these songs. Text was also written for the theme song Someone is Out There by Cobra, but only the instrumental version was used in the television series.
characters
Robert "Scandal" Jackson, Jr. ( Michael Dudikoff ) is a martial artist, experienced sniper, ex-Navy SEAL and former investigator for the NSI ideally suited to lead the field operations of Cobras. The only part of his past that remains is his mint condition Cobra, which he helped his father restore when he was younger.
Danielle LaPoint ( Allison Hossack ) is the daughter of Cobra's founder, Quentin Avery. Danielle is more or less Scandal's partner. Her mother was killed ten years earlier. So she chose to help victims like herself by working for Cobra. She has a degree in psychology from Harvard University with a Ph.D completed and was personally responsible for hiring Scandal after she had dealt with her father that he would be the perfect choice.
Dallas Cassel ( James Tolkan ) is a former FBI agent and the head of Cobra. He got off to a bad start with Scandal after faking his death to give him an honorable goodbye from the Navy , but Scan finally realized it was for his own good.
