Cohana Grande is a street village in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Cohana Grande is the most populous place in the canton of Cohana in the municipality of Pucarani in the province of Los Andes . The village is located at an altitude of 3900  m directly on the southeastern edge of Lake Titicaca , from here the wide plain of the Bolivian highlands extends to the southeast over El Alto and Calamarca .

Cohana Grande is located on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east. The climate of the region is semi-humid and a typical time of day climate , in which the mean temperature fluctuations during the day are more pronounced than during the year.

The mean average temperature of the region is 9 ° C (see Batalla's climate diagram), the monthly averages fluctuate only slightly between 6 ° C in July and 10 ° C in November and December. Cohana Grande is located 83 kilometers by road west of La Paz , the capital of the department.

From La Paz, the paved road Ruta 2 leads west to El Alto and another five kilometers in a north-westerly direction. Then the Ruta 1 branches off to the southwest and leads via Laja to Tambillo . From there you can reach Catavi via a side street in a north-westerly direction after twelve kilometers and after another ten kilometers Lacaya . In Lacaya a country road branches off in a northerly direction and after nine kilometers reaches Cohana Grande .

Due to the historical population development, the region has a high proportion of Aymara population, in the municipality of Pucarani 97.2 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
