Cola Turka is a cola drink produced by the Turkish company Ülker .

history

The drink was launched on the Turkish market on June 25, 2003. The Iraq war and the resulting anti-American sentiment boosted the sale of Cola Turka. Today it has a market share of around 19% of the Turkish cola market, where it competes with the soft drink manufacturers Coca-Cola and Pepsi .

Cola Turka wasn't the first brand to establish a caffeinated cola drink in Turkey. There have been manufacturers there for decades (e.g. Kristal Kola or Uludag Cola) who offer similar showers. The run on the product (especially in the Arab states) can be explained by a large-scale advertising campaign with patriotic slogans: the title "Kolası bildik kola, Turkası bizim Turka" was chosen for the market launch, translated as "the cola is the cola we know, only the turka is our turka "chosen, loosely translated as" a completely normal cola only in the Turkish way ".

variants

"Cola Turka", "Cola Turka Light", "Cola Turka Cappuccino" and "Cola Turka Sıfır"

Packaging / design

First the colors white and red determined the appearance of the outer packaging . The upper half was white, decorated with silver stars and bore the word " Cola ". The lower surface was red and depicted the word "Turka". The colors and the decoration are probably based on the Turkish flag . From the beginning of 2006 this design was revised, whereby the colors white and red were provided with color gradients and the stars were converted into water droplets and carbonic acid bubbles. The now rarer, larger stars in different sizes and shades of color are now gray and white. The writing is now shaded and is only shown in small letters, with the "a" in "turka" having a star inside. The light version is completely silver-white, with the black "light" imprint being very similar to the font of the original Coca-Cola. The manufacturer confirmed this change of image with the words "hep beraber", which translates as "all together". Cola Turka confirms the intention to be the cola of the people and to achieve this with a national feeling. Hollywood-based Turkish advertising designer Emrah Yücel is responsible for the new design ; known for the film posters and artworks by Kill Bill or Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda . Cola Turka expects the new design to have a more modern, young and dynamic appearance. Cola-Turka is sold in glass bottles (0.2 liters), PET bottles (1 to 3 liters) and aluminum cans (0.33 liters).

advertising

Well-known advertisements for Cola Turka are the clips with the American comedian Chevy Chase . He advertises Cola Turka and by drinking the lemonade changes his behavior, which is similar to that of a Turk, he and his family become "a la turca"; according to the motto "drink 'Cola Turka and become Turkish". A total of four commercials were shot for it. Many football players have also advertised Cola Turka in the Turkish league, including Pierre van Hooijdonk (then Fenerbahçe Istanbul ), Gökdeniz Karadeniz , Tuncay Şanlı , Matias Emilio Delgado .

Sponsorship

Cola Turka is the main sponsor of the Beşiktaş İstanbul soccer and basketball teams and the sub-sponsor of the Galatasaray Istanbul , Trabzonspor and Fenerbahçe İstanbul soccer teams .

Others

Cola Turka came onto the market exactly three days after US troops arrested 11 Turkish soldiers in northern Iraq . However, the Ülker company denied that the publication had anything to do with this so-called sack affair . This is confirmed by statements published months earlier by the manufacturer, which propagate an important product from the Ülker group that is soon to come. Nevertheless, the Iraq war appeared in a nationally broadcast commercial, at the end of which the Ataturk slogan was faded in: "Peace at home, peace in the world" (" Yurtta Sulh, Cihanda Sulh ").

In Germany , Cola Turka is available in many Turkish grocery stores. The drink is also sold in Austria , France , Great Britain, Switzerland , Azerbaijan and the northern part of Cyprus .
