Ülker Gıda Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. , or Ülker for short , is the largest Turkish food company and, measured by sales, the tenth largest confectionery manufacturer in the world. It was founded in 1944 in Istanbul in the Eminönü district . Ülker produces snacks , savory biscuits , cookies , chocolate , baby food , beverages , chewing gum , ice cream , coffee and margarine , among other things . The company employs around 30,000 people worldwide. Ülker is part of Yıldız Holding .
The company has made various acquisitions in recent years. For example, the Belgian premium chocolate manufacturer Godiva Chocolatier was bought in 2007 , the US confectionery manufacturer DeMet's Candy Company in 2013 and the British biscuit manufacturer United Biscuits in 2014 , making the Ülker Group the third largest biscuit manufacturer. At the beginning of 2016, Yıldız Holding merged its pastry, snack and confectionery subsidiaries United Biscuits, Godiva Chocolatier, DeMet's Candy Company and Ülker under the umbrella of the new company pladis , based in Hayes, UK.
In Europe, the products are sold by Akar GmbH with headquarters in Moosinning .
