Godiva Chocolatier is a chocolate manufacturer based in the Belgian capital, Brussels . The brand is located in the premium segment and is one of the world's leading brands there. The company was in the hands of the American group Campbell for 40 years until they sold it to the Turkish food manufacturer Yildiz Holding in 2007.

history

The chocolatier Joseph Draps founded Godiva in 1926 with a shop near the Grand-Place / Grote Markt in downtown Brussels. The name and company logo refer to the legend of Lady Godiva .

In 1958 the first foreign branch was opened in Paris . After numerous further European expansions, the first Godiva store in the USA opened in Philadelphia in 1966 , and the Reading factory opened in 1968. 1972 opened the first branch in Asia in Tokyo .

1966 Pepperidge Farm took over a majority in Godiva, whose parent company Campbell later took over the chocolate manufacturer completely.

On December 20, 2007 it was announced that Godiva had been sold to the Turkish Yıldız Holding for $ 850 million and will be incorporated into their Ülker group.

At the beginning of 2016, Yıldız Holding merged its pastry, snack and confectionery subsidiaries United Biscuits , Godiva Chocolatier, DeMet's Candy Company and Ülker under the umbrella of the new company pladis , based in Hayes, UK.

Products

Godiva's core business is pralines , as well as chocolate bars , chocolate bars , hot cocoa , pastries, coffee , candied fruits and other confectionery.
