Coldwater is a village in Mercer County in the US state of Ohio , about halfway between Columbus and Indianapolis . The village has a population of around 4,500 (as of the 2000 census ).
history
Coldwater was first settled in 1838 and officially established in 1883. In 1908 the entrepreneur Henry Synck relocated the New Idea Spreader Company from Maria Stein to Coldwater, as there was a railway connection here. Synck, together with his father-in-law Joseph Oppenheim, invented the world's first functioning manure spreader , which - along with other agricultural implements - has now been successfully manufactured in Coldwater. The company was subsequently sold several times, the last owner ( AGCO ) closing the factory in Coldwater in 1999.
Coldwater Catholic Parish was organized in 1867. Your current church, the Holy Trinity Church (Eng. Dreifaltigkeitskirche ), was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 as a cultural monument .
